CFO

Every Filipino who intends to emigrate as a
spouse or fiancé(e) of a foreign national is required to attend the CFO seminar and get their sticker and stamp placed in their passports after they
receive their visas. It matters none what name is in their passport as long as the passport is current.

To obtain a passport, if the Filipino is getting one for the purpose of emigrating as a spouse or fiancé(e) of a foreign national, they must take the CFO seminar before their passport will be issued.

The CFO seminar is valid for one year after taking it so if it was taken to get a passport, all that is needed is to return to the CFO after the visa is issued to get their sticker and stamp. There's no need to attend the
seminar more than once.

Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the CFO. Part of its registration requirements is attendance in the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) to prepare them for settlement overseas. Those who are 12 years old and below are exempt from attending the PDOS. They must, however, be registered, even if by proxy. Children of emigrants, aged 13 to 19, are required to attend the Peer Counseling Program to help facilitate their adjustment to a new environment.

How long after wedding and filing change of status can my wife travel outside the US?

Your wife will need an Advance Parole, which takes about 2 - 3 months to obtain, during processing of Adjustment of Status.

She has to obtain an Advanced Parole first. If she doesn't and leaves the states... she will have to return to the Philippines and then you will have to file for a spousal visa. There have been a few cases in the past where a couple went to Canada on their honeymoon... . only to end up being separated for a year because of no Advanced Parole. You can get the application directions and the application at the USCIS website

Warm wishes to you and your love!

Mabuhay!

Sincerely,
